Mark Wahlberg Says He Could Have Stopped 9/11

Submitted by News Guy on January 19, 2012 – 10:00 pmNo Comment

The actor, who is currently starring in Contraband, the number one movie in the country, put his foot in his mouth when he claimed that if he had been on Flight 93 with his kids when the terrorists took it over, he would have stopped it and the plane would have landed safely on 9/11.

Now Flight 93 was the one that did not crash into the World Trade Center, but in a field in Pennsylvania after passengers did revolt against the terrorists in an attempt to take back the plane. So to say that he would have been braver or did something that would have saved the jet is pure narcissism. I understand that he would want to protect his children and do everything in his power, but he can’t assume that he would do anything unless he was in that situation. He might be a kick butt type of hero in his action movies, but that doesn’t make him one in real life. I doubt even Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer) would be so bold.

He did apologize for the comment, realizing that he had overstepped, saying that he meant no disrespect to the families or the victims of the tragic event, but you know how that goes. Many times the apology winds up buried and the original statement lives on. This is especially true in this case. There is already at least one site that has created an Internet meme where the actor once known as Marky Mark says he could have fixed other man-made disasters such as the cruise liner that crashed in Italy, etc.

The point is to watch what you say to begin with…
