Helga Keen Kept a Diary of Life in the Concentration Camp

Submitted by Jules on January 7, 2008 – 11:26 amNo Comment

A diary has come to light in the Netherlands, having been kept by Helga Deen’s boyfriend, Kees van den Berg up until his death. It was kept as though it was a ‘religious relic’, along with a lock of her hair. It records the last days of her and her family before being transported to Sobibor concentration camp in German occupied Poland. They are recorded as having died on 16 July, 1943. Her last entry tells us “packing, and this morning a child dying which upset me completely. Another transport and this time we will be on it”.
